Hundreds of Miami Residents to Attend Free Legal and Social Service Event in Coconut Grove this Saturday

Dozens of community groups, lawyers, and legal aid organizations come together to provide free services to help people overcome barriers caused by the criminal justice system. 

Miami, FL (March 21, 2024) –

Nearly 100,000 people are arrested each year in Miami-Dade County. The vast majority of those arrested live below the poverty line and lack access to basic resources. This Saturday, the Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association, REFORM, the Carrie Meek Foundation, NAACP South Dade Branch, Miami-Dade County, and Florida Justice Center are hosting a Second Chance Event in the Coconut Grove neighborhood of Miami that provides free services to empower individuals to achieve success and break the cycle of incarceration. 

Taking place this Saturday, March 23 from 10am to 4pm, at the Greater St. Paul AME Church at 3680 Thomas Avenue, Miami, FL 33133, over one hundred people have pre-registered for this one-day event. 

Attendees are welcome to walk-in or pre-register online and meet with attorneys providing sealing and expungement, probation, clemency, voting rights, housing and evictions, mugshot removal, immigration, government benefits, and family law advice. Attendees can also meet with dozens of local nonprofit organizations helping attendees with housing, employment, transportation, medical care, mental health counseling, substance use treatment, childcare, education and employment. 

Organizations confirmed for the event include: Agape Network, Alive & Well Community Partners, Americans for Immigrant Justice, Cayuga Center, Circle of Brotherhood, Dade Legal Aid, Empowerment Zone Reentry Initiative, Engage Miami, EZRI, Florida Health, Goodwill South Florida, Legal Services of Greater Miami, LSF Miami Bridge, Midway Specialty Care Center, Re-Entry One, Suited for Success, Three Hundred Letters, YWCA of Miami-Dade, and many more.
