Steven Mitchel, Trial Attorney, Joins Florida Justice Center Board of Directors
Seasoned litigator, voting rights advocate, and administrator takes on leadership role with renowned legal aid organization.
Fort Lauderdale, FL (July 19, 2023) –
Florida Justice Center announced today the addition of Steven J. Mitchel, Esq., to its board of directors. Steve has been a “front line” trial attorney for more than thirty-five years and is the Managing Partner of Mintzer Sarowitz Zeris Ledva & Meyers, LLP’s Florida practice. Aside from his legal experience, Steve brings with him a passion for voting rights issues.
During his career, Steve has tried more than fifty cases to verdict in state and federal courts throughout the State of Florida and in many other parts of the country. His practice includes complex cases involving catastrophic injuries and/or high exposure damages. In addition to his practice, beginning in the late 1990’s, Steve served an Adjunct Professor of Law teaching Trial Advocacy to upper class law students at the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University. He has also taught trial skills to practicing attorneys through the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (“NITA”). For several years, he acted as a Special Master appointed by the Palm Beach County Commission and adjudicated disputes relating to ordinance violations. Based on his background and experience, Steve is frequently asked to speak at conferences and webinars on legal issues.
“The right to vote is foundational to our country and I’m anxious to roll up my sleeves to help people gain access to that basic American right. Every vote matters and FLJC’s mission of assisting those whose right to vote may be compromised is essential in Florida,” said Steve Mitchel.
Steve is passionate about giving back to his community wherever possible. He created and leads his firm’s MSZLMcares program that focuses on its charitable endeavors. He shares the Florida Justice Center’s core values of serving low-income communities and providing access to justice for those who cannot afford it.
“Steve Mitchel is truly a justice-minded attorney. His experience and gravitas in the legal world will help guide Florida Justice Center’s strategic direction as we move into the next stage of our organization’s growth,” said FLJC Executive Director Jonathan Bleiweiss.
Steve believes in second chances and supports Florida’s Amendment 4. “State felony disenfranchisement disproportionately impact African Americans. The citizens of Florida spoke to this issue when they passed a ballot initiative to restore voting rights and end this relic from our past. When people have paid their debt to society, it’s only fair and proper to restore their basic constitutional rights.”
Steve is looking forward to working with FLJC’s board to improve as many lives as possible.
